Jayabrata is a high rank state government employee. As per his request he was nominated as a polling officer in a polling booth. Two days were still then left for the assembly election to take place. So every polling worker had to leave home for election duty venue in the previous evening of election.
When all the workers arrived the spot it had been noted that all duty nominees have been provided a well arrangement of accomodation except poor Jayabrata. All election employees were provided an iron cot furnished with good bedding arrangement in a dormitory. But there was a shortage of only one room. So Jayabrata had been kept in waiting list. In such a situation Jayabrata had started feeling embarrassed but within fifteen minutes every problem had been managed to solve with the provision of a hostel room in a polytechnical college.
It was a summer time. That’s why summer vaccation was going on then and the hostel building was quite empty. The hostel care taker welcomed Jayabrata to the alotted room and handed the lock and key to him. When Jayabrata had asked the care taker about the meal arrangements there the care taker had informed him that food zone is available just on the ground floor along with good arrangements. Both the room service and direct table service in the canteen were available from 9 am. upto 11pm.
That night Jayabrata direct reached to the canteen and took supper. That night eveything went on smoothly.
Next day since from 7am. to 5pm. Jayabrata had to spend a hectic day. Any way all the employees were present in the booth till 6 pm. All of them had the evening tea along with some snacks right in the booth. That day Jaybrata was so tired that he had decided to take a full rest by taking a sound sleep. After taking a bath Jayabrata had taken the pillow and sunken in bed. His plan was to complete his all other works after a proper rest.
Jayabrata was in a deep sleep which had been disturbed with a calling bell sound. Jayabrata woke up and walked to the door to open it. There he found a man carrying a food tray. The man told Jayabrata,”Your dinner, Sir.” Jayabrata got quite confused about the suspense whether he had ever ordered for any dinner?” Whatever it’s Jayabrata had taken the dinner delivery. After having taken dinner when Jayabrata got ready to finish his pending election works like counting the list of the voters who had cast their votes he found his laptop missing. Jayabrata searched every nook and corner of the room but found the laptop nowhere. Jayabrata had really got disappointed at it for it’s a sign of bad service record. But finding no way other Jayabrata sat on his bed just depressed. Suddenly within few minutes he could see something glittering inside the desk. At once Jayabrata forwarded to the desk and could see the laptop. It was quite amazing to Jayabrata that he could never find any laptop there when he had a thorough inquiry before. Any way Jaybrata started to finish all pending works.
In the midwork when a mobile call from home came to him and Jayabrata became busy to receive it he again had lost his laptop. Within a split second the laptop had again disappeared. Jayabrata had got quite surprised at it. For a while when he had got in a pensive mood the door bell rang again. Agitated Jayabrata got up and opened the door just to see his laptop there but no one else. Jayabrata with his great confusion again lifted his laptop in his hand and till midnight he had kept doing all pending works.
Next morning when Jayabrata had met with the caretaker he had asked the latter about the dinner and laptop both. The caretaker informed Jayabrata that he was quite innocent about it. But he had told Jayabrata that a polytechnical student had committed suicide on the same floor some months ago.
