Today Runa has come to her father’s house. Having reached there she requested her bhavi,” Boudi, will you accompany me up to market? If you do it I won’t be feeling lonely.” Runa’s bhavi Tuli asked Runa,”Why do you want to visit market.?” Runa replied,” Durga puja is ahead, so I want to offer some gifts to my nephew nieces. So I like to purchase those items from market.” Tuli then told Runa,”You have no need to cross such a long distance for marketing, today is Friday on the bank of Sonai dighi( big waterbody) a big haat( temporary market) is set up. Every essential commodity including gorgeous garments can be found there. You can easily go there for marketing.” Runa again requested Tuli,” Pl. boudi you too come with me.” Tuli on a lame excuse evaded Runa’s request,”How can I go, thakur jhee? Your dada will come back from work at 4pm. I have to prepare tea and Tiffin for all. Then I will have to cook dinner for whole family. Besides it I’ve completed my puja marketing last week in the same haat.” Finding no way other Runa left for Sonai dighi haat.
When she was heading towards haat a big dark cloud was hovering over head. When Runa arrived there a cold wind started blowing. Runa also started hopping garments seller to seller. Then big rain drops started falling. Runa tried to complete her marketing in a short time but within split second a torrential rain had washed away all sides. The sellers also vanished in a blink of eyes.
Helplessly Runa started returning home. She got quite drenched along with her full attires. With wet dresses she was facing many troubles to walk. So she intended to follow the paddy crop field through aal (boundary lines of soil in between the fields) which was the shortcut route to home back. But the soil was so much watery that it got skidy and Runa was often tilting from her steps.
The place was quite solitary without any one else.
Suddenly Runa could find a teenager girl walking in front of her. Then Runa got confused to think, how could that girl overtake Runa through such a narrow path on the aal.? Anyway Runa took it easy and asked the girl,”Hi my girl, what’s your name?” The girl looked back to Runa and answered with a smile… Anita…
Runa again asked the girl,” Where do you stay?”The girl named a village which was next to the village of her father’s house. Suddenly Runa could hear a voice from backside. She looked back and saw a man telling, ” Bhavi, don’t go with that girl. She is not a normal girl but a ghost.” Runa at once looked front only to see the girl missing. Runa again got confused to think where did the girl disappear within such a short time from that vast crop field?” She got frightened and was about to rush back to that man behind her but there that man also was found missing. Now Runa felt helpless and fainted.
When it was 11pm. Runa’s family members became anxious of Runa. Then they called all their neighbors and started searching for Runa. Around midnight they could find her senseless amidst the crop field. After listening the full story some elderly villagers commented that few years ago there was a crematorium on that spot where it is now a crop field.
