In rainy season India has to face a precarious condition like avalanche, deluge, flood etc. Alok is a bengali young man stays at proper city because he works as a canteen cook in a renowned company. He visits his village once or twice a year if he ever gets chance.
It was mid July, suddenly a severe monsoon broke out in Bengal. A tremendous downpour had continued for nineteen days which had caused an inundation that had lashed out all over the state. The situation was so critical that it got out of control. Electricity, mobile tower, rail lines all submerged in waist deep water. In this case all mud huts were washed away. Majority of the cattle too faced same fate and helpless villagers moved to high lands to take shelter.
At that time Alok was staying in the city. Due to that reason he was neither getting any information from his village nor could visit there. So he was gradually getting anxious and restless as well.
After one and half month had passed forth, the situation however was brought under control and every comunicating system got normalised. Naturally Alok applied for one week leave to his employer. When it was granted, Alok left for his native place.
When the young man reached village he found every mud house been melted into a watery clay. But when he had reached his own home he found it in tact as before. Alok called, “Maa…(mom)” and mother at once replied,”Aye bhetare aye baba….(come inside, my son)”. Alok was very hungry and tired both. So after taking a bath he did have lunch with roasted brinjal, fried spinach and fish curry. Then Alok took a sound siesta.
When it was 4.30pm in the afternoon his young wife called him to offer a cup of tea. Alok took the cup and asked for a bowl of muri (puffed rice). His wife at once served it to him. Alok then asked his wife to dress up for an evening walk. The young lady went to her mother in law to take permission. Permission was granted. The young couple got out and after loitering for one hour Alok said,”Come on? Let’s go back.”
On the way back Alok noticed one strange thing that his wife was walking with the heels on front feet. Then he had exclaimed,”Alas, how strange! Do you have your heels on front feet?” The lady replied,”Yes, not only me mom also has got such heels.” Alok objected it,”Never,it can never be like that. My mom is quite normal.”Wife of Alok answered,” I was also quite mormal before but after having been washed away by the deluge both of us have got such peculiar looks.”
On returning home Alok came to his mother to ask her to show to him her heels.” His mother showed those to him. Alok surprisingly found that his mother also got such inverted heels.
